A tragic road accident claimed the lives of three highway maintenance workers on the Dharwad-Belgaum bypass in Karnataka. A speeding truck reportedly lost control and overturned directly onto the workers, who were engaged in routine repairs along the highway.
The victims died instantly due to the impact, with police arriving at the scene shortly after the incident. A formal case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the truck's loss of control.
This accident adds to a growing list of deadly road mishaps in the state. Earlier this year, a truck carrying fruit vendors overturned on NH-63, killing eleven and injuring twelve. Just last month, five people from Shivamogga died in a separate collision involving a truck on NH-52.
The latest tragedy raises questions about highway safety and the vulnerability of on-ground maintenance workers who operate with minimal protective measures against heavy vehicular traffic.
